About

Career Overview

I began my career in the publishing industry, working as a copyeditor for a legal publisher. Later, as an acquisitions editor for a reference publisher, I expanded my editorial skill set to include competitive research, product development, contract negotiation, and manuscript review.

My next stop was a membership society in the financial industry. I began as their communications manager, a hybrid writing/design position in which I was responsible for all of the organization’s marketing materials. I produced their first comprehensive brochure and transformed their monthly newsletter from a bare-bones event schedule to a content-based piece incorporating articles, conference summaries, book reviews, and photo highlights.

Receiving a promotion, I launched and ran the organization’s quarterly magazine. I established the overall tone and structure of the publication, determined article contents, and selected and advised authors, many of whom were prominent figures in the investment field. I also designed the entire periodical, including the logotype and brand identity; performed layout of each issue; and art directed illustrators.

I moved on to an international media company, designing all marketing and conference materials for their renowned digital-marketing brand. In another hybrid role, I revitalized a related brand’s magazine, establishing consistent typography and page design, laying out issues, and soliciting and editing articles.

My freelance work has been as varied as my staff positions. I’ve helped a 45-year-old nonprofit in the education field implement their new branding throughout their digital and print products; illustrated a map for a rescue that takes in over 1,000 animals per year; designed a Black Lives Matter sign for a synagogue that serves over 200 families; and edited a business plan for the head librarian at one of the top 100 law firms in the US.

My interest in photography has developed from my deep love of nature and the environment. I find gardens, intersections of nature and the built environment, to be particularly compelling, and I get great joy from capturing the ephemeral brilliance of a flower at its peak.
